Students serving breakfasts, lunches

Students in the Culinary Arts Department at Hawaii Community College West Hawaii are serving breakfast and lunches this semester.

Breakfast is served from 9 to 11 a.m. March 20 at the school. No reservations are required, and carry-out is welcome. The cost is $6 per person.

First-year students are studying American regional cuisine and will serve a mid-Atlantic-based lunch on March 21. The second-year students are basing their Friday lunches on fine dining/classical cuisine dishes.

Lunches are served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations will be taken beginning at 8 a.m. Monday the week of the luncheon. Call 322-4850. Changes or cancellations should be made at least 48 hours ahead of time. Tips are welcome. Schedule and pricing are subject to change.

Philipine consular outreach comes to Kona

The Philippine Consulate General Honolulu is pleased to announce it will undertake consular outreach in Kona on March 31 and April 1. The consular outreach will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West Hawaii Civic Center County Council Conference Room A. The services that will be available are passports, authentication and notary services, dual citizenship applications, and reports of birth, marriage or death.

Kona Toastmasters meets March 20

Kona Toastmasters meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at a new location at Suite Possibilities, 75-5737 Kuakini Highway, No. 102.

Kona Toastmasters offers peer support and training in the art of communication. Members hone skills in organizing and expressing their thoughts through: spontaneous sharing in meetings, writing and giving structured speeches, and evaluating speeches. Members have opportunities to develop leadership skills by hosting segments of the meeting and taking on decision-making positions.
